How Cell Phones Affect Our Health
There has been plenty of debate as to whether or not cell phones have holistically upgraded our lives. However, in light of their recent damaging reputation, it seems as though cell phones might soon be losing the battle against its detractors.
There were about 304.7 million cell phone units sold last year alone. Add that to the statistics of previous years and you’d be dumbfounded with the results. There are more than 203 million cell phone users in the United States alone. In Australia, the number of mobile phones already goes beyond the country’s population. People usually prefer to have two mobile phones in use, one for business and another for personal matters. With an exceedingly high popularity and demand among the masses, it’s hard to think about them being withdrawn from the market for the following threats they impose.
Cell phones have long been speculated as the source of degenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimers. But in addition to this, they are also being accused for other biological abnormalities such as an increased blood pressure, a weakened immunity, and the growth of tumors in the brain. Some experts claim that the electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile phones cause deadly and irreversible illnesses such as cancer. Now this is thought to be brought about by, first, the destruction of the brain’s selective barrier, which allows toxins and harmful chemicals to enter and wreak havoc on the structure; and second, by hemoglobin leaking from destroyed red blood cells, that lead to kidney and heart problems. Cell phone radiation is also suggested to endanger pregnancy and may even cause deformities among children. Though all of this remains to be purely theoretical and no weighty quantitative support has been established on humans, many medical practitioners still presuppose the truth behind this information and warn the public of too much cell phone use.
On another note, the radiation being released by cell phones are also suggested to cause serious environmental problems. It even has the ability to ignite gasoline fumes, which can cause freak fires. As such, they cannot be used near any refilling stations. Mobile phone use has also been a major predisposing factor to car accidents. And according to a study, phone distractions while driving produce about 200 deaths and a million injuries every year.
But with all things considered, cell phones are not solely to be blamed for these ill consequences. As such, the human factor cannot be excluded in the equation. Our excesses and lack of control usually bring about negative effects to our cell phone use. So, it might be best that we learn, while still physically fit, about what we can do to prevent bad things from happening. By using the internet, we can gather enough intelligence to help us live a better, healthier mobile phone using life.
